Ron Smith has been a lifelong professional horseman with 11 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World and Reserve World Championships and 3 National High Point Titles. He won the Quarter Horse Congress twice in addition to many State, Regional, Year End and High Point Titles. His success in the show ring is mirrored by his success in equine industry management. He was privileged to manage the breeding and showing of several internationally acclaimed AQHA stallions.
Today, Ron remains active in the equine industry through his relationship with AQHA as a National Director-at-Large following 15 years of active service representing the State of Georgia on the AQHA Board of Directors. During his time at AQHA, Ron held more than 23 leadership positions on prestigious committees too numerous to mention. In the State of Georgia, Ron is well known as an equine expert serving the Georgia Department of Agriculture as the Chairman of the Equine Commodities Commission and has served as the President of the Georgia Quarter Horse Association, Georgia Quarter Horse Racing Association and the Florida Quarter Horse Racing Association.
Ron is a firm believer in the benefits of therapeutic horsemanship and has been a long-time supporter of PATH International program. He assisted a local community program with fund development by hosting annual AQHA Trail Rides to support the center. It was there he met and soon married his wife of 16 years, Carlene, when she had taken the position of Executive Director at one of the oldest PATH programs in the country. He soon joined her at the center and became the Director of Operations. Together they have worked to expand the field of therapeutic horsemanship nationally and internationally through professional practice, research and service. He is proud to support, lend his expertise and serve on the inaugural Board of Directors for H.O.R.S.E. Therapies, Inc.
